HFTAlert's Burst Monitor detects High Frequency and automated portfolio trading activity in real time and displays the information in tabular and graphic formats. Each issue that has excessive quotation activity (quote stuffing for example) are shown as well as lists of issues targeted by the large HFT and portfolio 'program bursts'. Very large program bursts are called "Cappers" which typically mark the end of an intraday range where price then reverses. Knowing when and across which issues this activity occurs can help a trader understand when price is being pushed up or down by these programs.
The Burst Monitor is easy to use but it will take some time for you to observe HOW price behaves and then subsequently reacts to large HFT buy or sell programs. You can also monitor the total number of buy and sell programs graphically to see when they start to ramp or when buys or sells over-takes the other.
